On December 17, 1988, congress signed into law an act titled "Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA)". This law directed all schools, public and private, to inspect building for asbestos containing materials, develop an inventory and prepare a plan for management of asbestos containing materials in the buildings.
Pendleton School District 16R, utilizing the services of professional inspectors and consultants, has completed this directive for all District buildings. These Management Plans have been submitted to the State Department of Education and are available for review in the Administration Office. These plans are available for your convenience during regular business hours, 7:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. Copies are available with advance notice and payment of $25.00 to cover copying costs.
The School District is required to conduct ongoing surveillance of asbestos containing material every six months. This monitoring will be done during October and April of each year. Also required is notification of any actions to be taken concerning these materials.
During the 2025/2026 school year, any needed patching and repairing will be done.
